| Summary: | Given the existing important but limited Vietnam-specific research, an opportunity presents at VinUni to develop cutting-edge, innovative research on asthma and other upper respiratory diseases triggered by poor air quality, a growing public health concern of major societal relevance to Vietnam. While air pollution is recognised as a pressing public health concern by scientists and clinicians, governments have few incentives to cut burning of fossil fuels without public awareness of the issue. In order to action environmental change, people should be aware of the need to change their behaviour. This project aims to explore at a local level – in various districts of Hanoi – what residents think about air pollution. Through individuals answering a questionnaire, and in some cases a follow-up interview, we will determine community knowledge, awareness and perceptions of air quality – its causes and effects. |
