About the Workshop

This interactive session is designed for Early Career Academics, Early Career Researchers, and Teaching Assistants (TAs) who are reflecting on their academic and professional trajectories.

Through guided discussion and peer exchange, participants will:

  • Reflect on their values, passions, and personal circumstances
  • Explore diverse career pathways in academia and beyond
  • Receive feedback from peers and mentors to better plan next steps

About the Speakers

Professor Hong T. M. Bui brings a rich interdisciplinary background spanning economics, education, communication, and management, with expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research. Her work focuses on learning organizations, innovation, and sustainability. She has over 20 years of academic experience in the UK, including roles at leading institutions such as the University of Southampton and the University of Bath, and previously worked at Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Her research and collaborations address global challenges such as decarbonization, smart cities, healthcare, and entrepreneurship across both the Global North and South. Professor Hong has been recognized as one of Forbes Vietnam’s 20 Inspiring Women (2021) and is known for her strong commitment to mentoring the next generation of scholars and leaders.

Prof. Phan Manh Huong is a globally recognized physicist specializing in advanced nanomaterials and sensor technologies, with applications spanning energy-efficient cooling, healthcare, and quantum technologies. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Bristol and is currently a Full Professor at the University of South Florida. His research has led to groundbreaking discoveries, including room-temperature ferromagnetism in atomically thin materials, and he has authored over 350 publications with significant global impact. A highly cited scientist consistently ranked among the world’s top 1%, he has received numerous prestigious awards and is an active leader in the international scientific community. He also serves as Founding Member and Managing Editor of a leading Q1 journal and plays key roles in advancing research in Vietnam, including directing the VinUni Center for Materials Innovation and Technology (CMIT) and advising national science policy.

This workshop is jointly hosted by the Research Management Office and the Graduate Admission Team. We hope it will provide a valuable space for reflection, connection, and inspiration as you shape your career journey.
