Info Session: Seed Grant AY 2022-2023

This is an informational session on the Call for Proposals for the new round of AY 2022-2023 Seed Funding that was announced recently. If you are considering applying for a Seed Grant, you might find it useful to attend and to get answers to any questions that you might have. Check out the presentation here:
The Art and Science of Writing Successful Proposals

A talk by Professor Thuc Quyen Nguyen on how to formulate scientific questions and how to write an effective proposal, in which she also discusses effective practices for manuscript submission and publications.
Mathematical Optimization for Machine Learning and Decision

Speaker: YINYU YE, K.T. Li Professor of Engineering, Department of Management Science and Engineering and Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering, Stanford University Wednesday, August 17, 2022 | 4.30 – 5.30 pm (Hanoi time) C202 | Zoom Meeting Abstract: We present a few recent mathematical optimization case studies driven by Machine Learning applications. We show how newly developed (convex)
NLP@VinUni: Robust & Low-Resource Natural Language Processing

Despite some empirical successes, natural language processing (NLP) technology remains limited when it comes to practical applications, due to a lack of reliability and robustness, and very high memory and computational footprints. We plan to develop a strong research activity at VinUni centered around NLP, with a focus on three thrusts: a) low-resource and robust
A New Generation of Targeted Therapies for Cancer, Autoimmune, and Infectious Diseases

We are exploring the use of high affinity targeting ligands to deliver attached drugs specifically into diseased cells, thereby simultaneously improving their potencies and reducing their off-target toxicities. For this purpose, we have designed targeting ligands for many human cancers, viruses and virus-infected cells, bone fracture surfaces, inflammatory macrophages, regulatory T cells, cancer associated fibroblasts, myeloid derived suppressor cells, antigen presenting cells, and tumor associated fibroblasts among others.
Service Quality Issues in the Triad of Sharing Services: Conceptualization of Issues and Propositions for Solutions

Abstract: Sharing-service business models face their own unique operational issues. The human aspect of the operation is particularly different from traditional service business models, and therefore requires special attention. One in that aspect is “increased role of customers in service production/delivery process” in sharing-service models. The primary goal of this study is to identify such
Lived experiences of sexual violence among trans women of colour in Australia: What can we do for Vietnam?

Research Abstract: Transgender (trans) women are at higher risk of sexual violence than cisgender women. Transwomen of colour face discrimination and violence on the basis of the intersection of their gender and racial identities, and for some, their sexual identities as queer women. However, there is an absence of Australian research investigating the experiences of
Organic Solar Cells and the Future Energy Challenge

Speaker: Thuc-Quyen Nguyen, Professor, Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry; Director, Center for Polymers and Organic Solids; University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) Friday, April 22, 2022, 8 am- 9 am | Zoom Meeting Abstract: The development of alternative energy sources is now recognized by government, society and the global community as an urgent need. Solution-processed organic solar
Corpus Linguistics – How do computers analyze human language?

Most of us have probably had the experience of using translation software and receiving the wrong message. Why does this happen? And how do these language technologies work? In this seminar, we will discuss the science behind computational linguistics systems and their areas for improvement in the future. About the Speaker: Dr. Bui Thanh Tuong
Biomedical image processing applications

Abstract: In this talk, the speaker will present several biomedical image processing applications which can leverage the power of Deep Learning/Machine Learning to perform such tasks on image-to-image translation. For example, reconstruction, segmentation, and denoising. Additional tips and tricks in model and loss engineering will be also introduced. Furthermore, the data-centric augmentation to enrich the
