My most recent monographs include Playing Jazz in Socialist Vietnam (UPM 2021), Jazz in Socialist Hanoi (Routledge 2022), and Choi Jazz o Viet Nam (Omega+ 2022). Playing Jazz in Socialist Vietnam came in second in the 2022 EuroSEAS Humanities Book Prize, while Choi Jazz o Viet Nam received a Vietnam National Book Prize 2023 award. I am fundamentally a Vietnamologist with specialization in ethnography and extended research interest on cultural narratives and political and social change across the Southeast Asian Massif. I have led international research projects and have published widely on: The Central Highlands of Vietnam; Dian-Viet Railway (Haiphong-Kunming); and Collaborative Digital Autoethnography. I devoted my entire early career to develop an original model of Collaborative Digital Autoethnography in the form of #kachinlifestories, a public digital ethnography project designed for the Kachin people. #kachinlifestories is created and mobilised under anthropological conditions of the globalising digital present.
