About the Seminar
This talk introduces an optimization-based framework for smart EV charging that integrates both cost and carbon considerations. It highlights how charging strategies can respond to time-of-use pricing and grid carbon intensity, with practical implications for utilities, energy systems, and policymakers.
About the Speakers
Prof. Giuseppe C. Calafiore is Full Professor at Politecnico di Torino and a Fellow of IEEE. His research focuses on optimization, machine learning, and energy systems, with recent work on smart EV charging and financial systems. He has authored over 200 publications and several books, including Financial Data Science (Cambridge University Press, 2026).
Prof. Laurent El Ghaoui is Vice-Provost of Research and Innovation and Dean of Engineering and Computer Sciences at VinUniversity. He is an expert in optimization and machine learning, with previous appointments at UC Berkeley and a strong track record in robust optimization, data science, and computational methods.
This seminar is jointly hosted by the Center for AI Research (CAIR) and the Research Management Office (RMO). We hope it will provide a valuable opportunity for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and discussion on emerging research directions.
