He also holds Advanced Certificate in Sustainability from Singapore Management University and Certificate of Proficiency in Carbon Accounting from the GHG Management Institute, USA. Dr Yin previously held visiting scholar appointments at Columbia University and Harvard University and faculty positions at universities in the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia. Prior to joining VinUniversity, he served as a Professor of Advanced Materials & Sustainability at Newcastle University in Singapore (NUiS), a member of the Russell Group in the UK, where he focused on research and innovation in sustainable materials and environmental engineering solutions. Professor Yin previously served as the inaugural Director of Internationalization at NUiS and as a member of its Singapore Executive Board. Through close collaboration with international partners, he jointly secured over £1.2 million in research funding from Royal Academy of Engineering (UK), British Council and Australian Research Council. He has published more than 100 JCR-indexed journal articles and currently listed in the Stanford List of Top 2% of Scientists (main subfield discipline). He was awarded the 2013 Murdoch University Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Research in recognition of his achievements. He served as a member of the British Council-Newton Fund Engineering and Physical Sciences Review Panel (2015–2023), a UK Management Committee Member for the EU COST Action ES1205 and a member of the Sustainability Committee at the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore. Three of his papers have been recognized for their impact and of which two featured as cover images in flagship journals and one designated as a HOT manuscript in 2017. He is currently serving as Editorial Board Member of Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio) and Materials (MDPI). He successfully co-supervised seven PhD students and a postdoctoral research associate (PDRA) within his research group and was nominated for The Education Awards (TEAs) in the “Outstanding Contribution to Teaching – Global Campuses” category (2021) at Newcastle University, UK.
